Kurdish Legends Exhibition

24 – 29 May 2026

Opening Event, Sunday 24th May, 5:30-8:00 pm

The Tabernacle, 34-35 Powis Square London W11 2AY

The Kurdish Legends exhibition is inspired by the rich history, myths, and legends of Kurdistan. The paintings open a doorway into shared cultural memories, where storytelling has always played an important role in shaping identity and imagination. Each artwork invites viewers into a space where the past and present come together.

Using layered colours and brushwork influenced by Kurdish artistic traditions, the exhibition brings these old stories to life in a new visual way. Instead of just showing events, the paintings focus on the emotions, symbols, and cultural spirit within each tale. Together, they create a journey through Kurdish heritage and offer a gentle but powerful reminder of how stories continue to live within us.

Shad Raouf Qazaz, the author of Children of Zagros: A Journey Through Kurdish Mythology will be joining us on the opening day to launch his book. We will also be celebrating the launch of Gulan’s latest colouring book.

The Kurdish Legends exhibition is organised by Gulan and curated by Mariwan Jalal.

About the Book:

Shad Raouf Qazaz’s novel, Children of Zagros, is a captivating story that brings Kurdish culture, myths, and folklore to life. The novel is an epic journey of self-discovery set in a world of dark secrets and dormant powers. It tells the story of a princess who is unexpectedly chosen as the successor to the king and faces a dilemma: ascend the throne and be forced into marriage, or venture into the unknown. She chooses to flee, aided by a loyal warrior. The novel is a work of fantasy, with creative liberties taken with facts and folklore, and it aims to highlight Kurdish culture and characters. The book has been translated into Kurdish and will be published globally.
