Wedding Dress, Zakho

A traditional Jewish wedding dress from Zakho, with long-sleeved purple Kiras, or dress, with a waistcoat or Yelek, hand embroidered and edged in green. Over the waistcoat is a pink Neukawa with vertical gold stripes. The Kawa, or overcoat is made of blue patterned silk, padded and edged in pink. A hand woven belt, or cummerbund, is fastened at the back with silk tassels.

The dress is owned by Professor Yona Sabar, and was worn by his mother on her wedding day.
